How can you help?
As followers of Christ, our response to the hurricane disaster is to pray, give and go. As “The Church”, we will be responding to this disaster in three phases.
Phase 1 is occurring now. We have filled a 53-foot trailer that has left for the Golden Triangle Association in Beaumont, TX , where the goods will be distributed as needed to the surrounding areas of Houston. We are in the process of getting a second trailer to be filled to go to Hurricane Irma Disaster Relief. We are to pray, give financially, and volunteer to serve at the community collection trailer. See below for specific details.
Phase 2 will occur later this fall. The BBA churches, with the lead of Hunter Street Baptist Church, will continue to pray for our neighbors on the Gulf Coast and we will prepare Buckets for Harvey. The buckets will be filled with items necessary for cleanup. More information is to follow.
Phase 3 will occur over the next several months as we send mission teams to assist with the recovery.
The BBA has entered into a partnership with the Union Baptist Association Houston (UBAH) for disaster relief/recovery. The UBAH has a membership of 375 congregations most of which have received damage. Once the recovery stage is allowed by law enforcement and governmental agencies we will begin sending mission teams to assist the churches and their membership. The BBA wanted to partner with our sister association in Houston for credibility and accountability.
Phase 1 Details:
- Pray for victims and their needs.
- Pray for pastors and churches along the Gulf Coast.
- Pray for the safety of first responders, volunteers, and others offering aid.
- Pray that God will receive much glory during this time of tragedy.
Churches of the Birmingham Baptist Association are also partnering with Hunter Street Baptist Church to collect supplies to aid those in need. If you would like to give financially, you may give through the BBA website at www.bbaonline.org/give or you may write a check and designate on the check memo line that it is for “Disaster Relief“ and send to the BBA, 750 Montclair Road, Birmingham, AL 35213. 100% of financial donations go directly to Disaster Relief.
Hunter Street Baptist Church, located at 2600 John Hawkins Pkwy, Hoover, AL 35244, took the lead on collecting material goods and securing an on-site tractor trailer truck that has left for Beaumont, TX, for distribution of your donations. They will receive the following items:
- cases of bottled water
- baby diapers
- adult diapers
- baby wipes
- baby formula
- boxes of 50-gallon construction trash bags
- leather work gloves
- disposable cleaning gloves
- cases of Clorox (not individual bottles)
- respirator breathing mask
The second trailer for Hurricane Irma survivors is being considered. We may need volunteers at a later date.
