There are many different people groups living in North Africa and the Middle East. Many are of Arab descent, having arrived in the area during the conquest of the region in the first decades after the start of Islam. The other peoples of North Africa are Berbers, which have retained their local languages and customs. Many early Christian leaders were Berber, and among some Berbers, there is an amazing church planting movement spreading in North Africa today.
