Raceway Ministry report
Over 8,000 bottles of water were distributed at the Fall NASCAR Race at Talladega on the first weekend in October. 70 volunteers distributed the water and snacks in the North Park Campground which is home to about 10,000 campers on race weekend. The Alabama Raceway labels are on each bottle with “Jesus: Living Water, Eternal Thirst Quencher” taken from John 4:14. Food and water is also provided for race workers and all of the security workers. We have received letters from the St. Clair Sheriff’s Department and Calhoun Sheriff’s Department thanking us for our generosity and for having a place of rest for their deputies. These deputies are working in stressful situations and they welcome a few moments to rest and share a hot dog or hamburger with our volunteers at the Helen White Hospitality Tent.
Eastside Baptist Church, Cross Point Baptist Church and North Highland Baptist Church participated in sharing God’s love with race fans. North Highland’s Youth Group, “Rated E”, presented music and drama. They demonstrated how Satan tries to rob us, but Jesus will set us free. Eastside and Cross Point distributed water across the campground and invited fans to attend worship on Sunday. Dr. Mark Stokes (son of Dr. Reginald Stokes) brought a challenging message to fans as they were preparing to attend Sunday’s race. Bro. Mark shared how life is so much like the race they would be attending. You have to be focused on Jesus and cannot let anything keep you from running a good race. Bro. Mark is Pastor of the First Baptist Church, Aberdeen, Mississippi.
Many BBA churches made donations of water and snacks. Thank you for making this ministry successful. Lives were changed forever on this race weekend and you made it possible. Please pray for the Alabama Raceway Ministries as they plan to enlarge the ministry by Spring, 2007.
